Group Sessions: Parties & Flash Mobs

While 1-on-1 matchmaking is the core of Session, we know that VR is often best experienced in groups. We are actively developing exciting new ways for you to gather your friends—or meet entirely new crowds—using Parties and Flash Mobs.

Parties (Coming Soon)

Parties allow you to group up with your existing friends before entering the matchmaking queue.

How it Works:

1. Squad Up: Create a Party in the Session app and invite your friends to join.
2. Set the Vibe: As the Party Leader, set the Vibe Tags and preferred world/activity for the entire group.
3. Group Matchmaking: The Party enters the queue as a single entity. The system will then match your group with either a similarly sized Party or fill out the remaining slots with solo users who match your criteria.
4. Seamless Instance Joining: Once matched, the Escrow Bot drops a VRChat invite to everyone in the Party simultaneously, dropping the entire squad into the same private instance together.

Flash Mobs (Coming Soon)

Flash Mobs are large-scale, spontaneous, themed gatherings designed to bring the community together for unique events.

How it Works:

1. The Call: Session will periodically announce a Flash Mob with a specific theme (e.g., “Friday Night Club Crawl”, “Murder Mystery Match”, or “Massive Movie Premiere”).
2. Opt-In: Users can opt-in to the Flash Mob queue via the app.
3. The Drop: At a predetermined time, Session’s backend will simultaneously spin up multiple large-capacity VRChat instances.
4. Mass Invites: Hundreds of users are instantly matched and sent invites by the Escrow bot network, instantly turning an empty world into a massive, curated party based on the Flash Mob’s specific Vibe Tags.
