How Matchmaking Works

Session gets you out of chaotic public lobbies and into meaningful, curated experiences. Say goodbye to spawning into worlds full of AFK players or trolls.

1. The Match Config

Before you enter the queue, you define exactly what kind of experience you are looking for. This tells our matchmaking engine how to route you.

Core Categories:

  • Activities: Choose from exactly what you want to do: Cuddle, Sleep, DeepTalks, or Movie/Watch Party.
  • Vibe Tags: What’s the specific mood? (e.g., Chill, Just Chatting, Horror Maps, World Hopping)
  • Age Range: Set a strict minimum and maximum age preference for your match.
  • Microphone Requirements: Require your partner to have a working microphone, or allow mute users.
  • Language: Match exclusively with users who speak your selected language.

[!TIP] The more restrictive your Match Config is, the longer it will take to find a match. Filtering for a highly specific set of Vibe Tags within a narrow age range will shrink your potential match pool.

2. The Matchmaking Queue

Once your config is set, press Hunt to enter the Matchmaking Queue.

Behind the scenes, the Session algorithm actively scans the pool of hunting users. It evaluates your profile against others to find a mutually aligned partner.

The Resolution Process:

  1. Match Found: The system pairs you with a compatible user.
  2. Instance Creation: A private, isolated Invite+ instance is instantiated on VRChat servers on demand.
  3. Escrow Bot Dispatch: Session backend Escrow bots ensure the instance is spun up securely.
  4. Push Notification: You receive an immediate notification in the mobile app.
  5. Direct Invite: Both users receive a direct Launch in VRChat link, and an in-game VRChat invite sent by the Escrow Bot.

3. Session+ and High Aura Perks

Users who subscribe to Session+ or maintain a significantly high Aura score are given Priority Matching status.

You can configure your Match Config to exlusively target other Session+ users, guaranteeing a premium and highly-verified interaction space.
